Unlike coriander and mint leaves, most of us consider curry leaves as a waste and when we see it in our upmas and sabzis, we pick it and keep it aside. Although these leaves are not very tasty, they are healthy and nutritious. And what’s more, when added to your food help in digestion and might prevent various stomach disorders such as indigestion and diarrhoea. So don’t throw away these humble leaves if you find them in your food the next time.
Known to be carminative in nature, curry leaves play a key role in digestion. According to Ayurveda, kadi patta has mild laxative properties that aid in the excretion of toxic waste (known as ama) from the body. Also, it helps you to balance the pitta levels in the body that in turn might lead to indigestion and feeling of nausea. It also contains an alkaloid carbazole that acts as anti-inflammatory compounds which combats an upset stomach and also counteracts the effects of spicy food when had with meals.

- Adai with curry leaves (it is not only tasty but healthy as well)
- Curry leaves chutney with chillies, salt and tomatoes (if you love spicy food)
- Finely chopped curry leaves in parathas
- Curry leaves in dal (along with other leafy vegetables)
- Crushed curry leaves with buttermilk 2- 3 times a day to relieve diarrhoea.
